Hester and Cedric Crowell Endowment

The Hester and Cedric Crowell Endowment was established by Jane Crowell Rieffel in memory of her parents to recognize their interest in literature and the performing arts. Through this gift, Ms. Rieffel has expressed her personal commitment to UCSB’s academic excellence and to the advancement of interdisciplinary scholarship and education.

Harry Girvetz Memorial Endowment

Dr. Harry Girvetz, Professor of Philosophy, was a major force in shaping the history of the Santa Barbara campus of the University of California. He was a leader in university affairs, a notably successful and influential teacher and an important figure in liberal causes and in Democratic party politics in the West. 

Idee Levitan IHC Endowment

Prior to her death in 1997, Idee Levitan-Maxted, calligrapher, painter and poet, contributed a generous endowment to the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center. The Idee Levitan IHC Endowed Lecture Series was established in recognition of her gift.

Sara Miller McCune and George D. McCune Endowment

Sara Miller McCune is the publisher and chairman of Sage Publications, located in Thousand Oaks, CA, as well as the president of the McCune Foundation of Montecito. She established the Sara Miller McCune and George D. McCune Endowment in 1997.

Herman P. and Sophia Taubman Foundation Endowed Symposia in Jewish Studies

In 1999 the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara received a gift from the Herman P. and Sophia Taubman Foundation, which is enabling us to bring to our campus leading writers, artists, scholars, critics, and activists engaged in work of great distinction related to the Jewish experience.
