Ben Olguín wins NEA Art Works Grant

June 15, 2020

The IHC is delighted to announce that Ben Olguín, Professor and Robert and Liisa Erickson Presidential Chair in English, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Art Works Grant.

About the Project

The Voces Nuevas New Latinx Authors Series, sponsored by the UCSB English Department’s Global Latinidades Project and housed in the IHC, received an NEA Art Works Grant for $15,000. This new initiative seeks to identify and feature new or underrecognized Latinx authors from a multiplicity of backgrounds, regions, and artistic practices. This pilot initiative extends from 2020-2021 and involves a UCSB partnership with the grassroots Santa Barbara community arts and social service organization El Centro Santa Barbara, which will host a community author reading and creative writing workshop component. The first author is being scheduled for the 2021 Winter Quarter.
