Saturday, January 15 / 9:00 am–6:00 pm
Loma Pelona Conference Center

This day-long workshop brought together scholars from the United States and Asia with leaders of various international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to examine the role of religion in global civil society, with a particular focus on the religions and cultures of South and Southeast Asia. The workshop participants discussed a range of issues related to religion that are relevant to international human rights and humanitarian service agencies, including matters of cultural conflict and sensitivity that confront all humanitarian organizations working in South and Southeast Asia.

The workshop was sponsored by the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies with funding from the Henry R. Luce Initiative on Religion and International Affairs.
