About the Organization

The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1963 that operates historic sites in Santa Barbara County, including El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park and Casa de la Guerra in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. As a historical museum and archaeological site, we provide comprehensive educational programming that addresses the history and relevance of the region’s multi-cultural and layered past.

Position: Public Engagement Fellow

The Public Engagement Fellow will aid SBTHP’s Public Engagement (PE) staff with the following projects/programs and tasks at El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park and Casa de la Guerra:

• Help with oral history and archival projects at the Presidio Research Center (www.sbthp.org/prc)
• Help PE staff with two youth/summer camps in June and July called CASA Camp & Presidio Archaeology Camp (for more information, visit: www.sbthp.org/summerprograms)
• Help PE staff and SBTHP’s Asian American Affinity Group with annual Asian American Film Series in July (www.sbthp.org/aafs)
• Help other PE departments with Visitor Center desk coverage, Weekend family activities, and projects in our Presidio Research Center archives and library

The internship will take place for ten weeks (20 hours/week) beginning in June 2026.
