Alex Wahl is an M.A. student in Sociocultural Linguistics at UCSB. His research focuses on language and identity in urban Africa. His forthcoming publication in Pragmatics and Society investigates parodies of Hollywood film characters by African reality television contestants. For his master’s thesis, he is examining the linguistic construction of authenticity and place in the Angolan music style Kuduro. Audrey Lopez is a graduate student in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at UCSB.
