This roundtable will focus on Sener Akturk’s Regimes of Ethnicity and Nationhood in Germany, Russia, and Turkey, which examines why ethnic policies change. In Germany, the case is why the citizenship law changed. In Turkey, why Kurdish language use and publication became possible. Finally, in Russia, why passport nationality was removed from passports. The roundtable is open to all. Among those participating are UCSB Professors Heather Stoll (Political Science), Harold Marcuse (History), Amit Ahuja (Political Science) and Cynthia Kaplan (Political Science).
