Call for IHC PLATFORM Exhibition Gallery Submissions,
HSSB 6th Floor

The Interdisciplinary Humanities Center announces a new call for submissions for artwork to be included in its public exhibition space, the PLATFORM gallery. We are soliciting work that engages with our 2017-18 public events series theme, Crossings + Boundaries, which considers diverse experiences and phenomena of boundary crossing — institutional, political, cultural, artistic, gendered, psychological, and more. Please see our website for more information on the theme and its events. The IHC exhibition gallery, which surrounds our public lecture room, the McCune Conference Room, presents an opportunity for artists to bring the IHC’s academic and community guests into dialogue with Crossings + Boundaries in creative ways. We are especially interested in submissions from current UCSB students.

Email submissions of one or more images to by Monday, September 11. Submissions must include:

  1. Artist name, title, media, year for each art object
  2. Brief resume with current affiliation
  3. A description of how the artwork enters into dialogue with the Crossings + Boundaries theme
  4. Attached images* in two versions:
    • 72 DPI jpeg no larger than 600 pixels (length or width) and
    • 300 DPI PDF no larger than 11 x 17 inches

*Each artist assures the IHC that the artist has the authority under copyright law to have the work exhibited and posted on the IHC website. All rights will remain the property of the artist.

Selected artworks will be printed and matted (11 x 17) by the IHC and will also become
part of the permanent PLATFORM online artist archive.

Q: What kinds of art are you accepting for submission?
A: We are accepting digital images of two-dimensional artwork. The submission can be an artwork that is originally in digital form (e.g. a digital photograph or a digitally-designed image), or it can be a digital image reproduction of a non-digital artwork (e.g. a scan or photograph of a drawing or collage).

Q: How many pieces may I submit?
A: You may submit between one and fourteen artworks. There are fourteen frames in the gallery.

Q: May I submit a series of works?
A: Yes. Please note in your submission if some or all of your artworks are part of a series that may only be exhibited together.

Q: What do you do with my art once it has been submitted?
A: If you art is selected for the exhibition, the IHC will print the high-resolution image on 11 x 17 inch paper and then return the printed image to you (unframed) after the conclusion of the exhibition. The IHC will delete the high-resolution digital image from its files after the exhibition. The low-resolution digital image will become part of the permanent online PLATFORM gallery. All image rights remain the property of the artist. If your submission is not selected for the exhibition, the IHC will delete both high- and low-resolution digital images from its files.

Q: What will the matting and frame look like?
A: The frame is 20 ½ x 28 ½ inches and is white; the mat displays an area of 10 ½ x 16 ¼ inches and is also white. To see the exhibition frames, please visit the HSSB 6 th floor.

Please email submissions to by Monday, September 11.
