Originating from the French word plateforme, meaning ‘ground plan’ or ‘flat shape’, PLATFORM is a public exhibition space geared toward bolstering the careers of emerging artists though the submission and display of two-dimensional printed media and time based artwork. The PLATFORM gallery, which surrounds the McCune public lecture room at the UCSB Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, presents an opportunity for artists to bring the IHC’s academic and community guests into dialogue with its annual public events series theme in creative ways.
All submissions to PLATFORM are completed online and must adhere to the required specifications. We solicit work that engages with the IHC Public Events Series annual theme. The theme for 2017-18 is Crossings + Boundaries. Because of the online submission process, PLATFORM does not require artists to pay submission fees or ship physical art objects, creating an opportunity for artists to participate regardless of their location, income or nationality.
