The IHC is located on the 6th floor of the Humanities
and Social Sciences Building, Room 6046 (Click

Center on the UCSB campus in beautiful Santa Barbara,
California.
DIRECTIONS FROM LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
We recommend the Santa Barbara Airbus, particularly
if you must return to LAX for your departing flight.
The Airbus is reliable, and offers a reasonable round-trip
fare of approximately $60 (prepaid). The nearest Airbus
drop-off point to the UCSB campus is 5755 Thornwood
Drive, in Goleta. If we have not arranged for someone
to pick you up, you'll need to call a cab, or the hotel
shuttle (if available) for delivery to your local destination.
If you are driving from LAX, exit the airport lot at
Sepulveda Blvd., and follow Sepulveda Blvd. to the 405
North Freeway entrance. Follow 405 North to 101 North
(Ventura Freeway). Remain on the 101 (for approximately
one and a half hours) into Santa Barbara. Proceed through
Santa Barbara and north for approximately 10 miles.
Exit at the "UCSB/Ward Memorial" (Highway
217) offramp. Follow the signs onto campus. Loop right
into "Mesa Road." Make a left at "Ocean."
Ocean veers right at the bus loop. Continue on Ocean
past the IHC and the events center and park in lot 22
(parking structure).
FROM SANTA BARBARA AIRPORT
"Yellow Cab" at 965-5111. Cab fare should
be about $10; if you use the cabs at the airport, the
fare is around $20.
If you are renting a car at the airport, turn right
as you exit the rental car lot, onto William Moffet
Lane. Follow the signs onto campus. It is less than
a five-minute drive. At the campus entrance, ask the
kiosk attendant for directions to the HSSB.
If you are staying at The Best Western South Coast
Inn, and we have not arranged for someone to pick you
up, simply use the airport courtesy phone to call the
Inn for pickup.

MEALS
Many lunch and dinner restaurants of all price ranges
can be found near The South Coast Inn and on the campus.
Also, many varying types of food are available in the
nearby town of Santa Barbara.
CLIMATE
Weather in Santa Barbara can be unpredictable. Although
it is in the warmer, Southern California region, it
is a beach community and therefore experiences coastal
weather.
During the Spring and Summer, it is most likely to
be warm and sunny. Mornings are usually overcast, but
the fog burns off by the afternoon. During the Spring,
it may even rain. Bring comfortable, casual clothing,
but be sure also to bring at least one jacket. During
the Spring, bring an umbrella.
During the Fall and Winter, it is most likely to be
cool and sunny, with the usual morning fog. During the
Winter, you may also see rain. Bring warm, comfortable
clothing and a jacket. During the Winter, bring an umbrella.
FUN FACTS
The HSSB building was designed by Bob Frasca of the
firm of Zimmer-Gunsul-Frasca. Constructed at a cost
of $32 million, the Humanities and Social Sciences Building
is an architectural triumph. We at the IHC are proud
to occupy the building's crowning feature, the suite
of offices and magnificent conference room at the top
of the central tower.
The IHC is comprised of administrative offices, the
Sarah Miller and George D. McCune Conference Room (which
seats 100 persons), the Crowell Reading Room (which
seats 14 persons), the Meeting Room (which seats 8 persons),
as well as offices on the 5th and 6th floors of the
HSSB which accommodate the IHC Residency Program and
various research projects.
