As part of its Food Matters series for the 2008-09 year, the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center at UC Santa Barbara will host a graduate conference on May 1, 2009 based around the theme “Food Matters: Arts, Activism, and Research.”
At this conference, we will seek to foster dialogue between academic disciplines and the community as we analyze the role food plays in constellation with social justice, functionality, production, consumption, cultural identity, religion, literature, and art. The day’s activities will feature academic panels, a community round table, art installations, a film screening, and both a lunch and reception featuring locally grown food.
