The Interdisciplinary Humanities Center provides limited funding
to co-sponsor visits to campus by humanistic scholars or artists
during the academic year. Individual faculty, departments,
programs, and centers in the humanities, arts, and humanistic
social sciences are eligible to apply. Co-sponsored events
should be open to the public and of interest to faculty and
students from a number of disciplines. Information on co-sponsored
events will be posted on the IHC website and email digest, but
no other assistance in publicity (through fliers or posters)
will be provided because of limited staff time.
Application:
Requests for co-sponsorship should specify the qualification
of the visitor, the nature of the visit, likely interested
groups on campus, the amount requested along with a total
budget for the visit and a list of all other funding sources
(tentative or firmly committed), and include an abbreviated
c.v. or resume of the visitor. Normally, evidences of firm
commitment of funding from two separate academic units are
required prior to the awarding of IHC funds.
To facilitate the review process, electronic applications
are recommended. Such applications should be emailed to Acting Director Ann Bermingham: bermingham@arthistory.ucsb.edu.
There are no deadlines; requests are reviewed as submitted.
No retroactive funding is permitted.
Award Amounts:
Co-sponsored amounts typically range from $200-$400. Normally,
they will not exceed the contribution of the event’s
main sponsor or half of the overall budget. Also, due to UC
regulations, the IHC cannot fund honoraria to visitors from
other UC campuses.
