Application Instructions and Guidelines
Deadline: January 15, 2008
(For projects taking place in the 2008-2009 academic year)
The Interdisciplinary Humanities Center offers an annual collaborative
project award (up to $3,000) to encourage graduate student
collaboration beyond the confines and conventions of particular
departments and disciplines within the Arts & Humanities,
and between the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and
Sciences. Groups of graduate students from at least two departments
and academic programs are eligible to apply. A faculty advisor
is recommended but not required. Eligible projects include
conferences, symposia, exhibitions, and performances. Projects
that experiment with a combination of dissemination formats
are encouraged. Besides making a significant contribution
to current scholarship and research practices, proposed projects
should seek to
- frame their questions, methods and modes
of inquiry with reference to two or more established disciplines/fields
of study, and/or
- foster the development of new objects
and areas of study, and new ways of producing, presenting,
and disseminating knowledge
The winning project will be designated
an IHC activity and accorded full administrative support.
A complete application should include:
- a cover sheet (download
form)
- a project description (5 pages, double
spaced, see instructions below)
- a preliminary budget (briefly explain
any budget items that are not self-explanatory; the IHC
does not fund equipment costs)
- brief curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum)
of the project organizers
The project description should:
- state the objectives, ideas, and methodology
of the project
- discuss the project’s significance
and originality with reference to current scholarship and/or
arts practice
- specify the interdisciplinary scope
of the project
- explain the nature of the collaboration
and how it will advance knowledge and scholarship in the
field of study
- state the particular expertise and potential
contribution of each participant
- define the project’s target audience(s)
and the form(s) in which it will be disseminated
- include a timetable and work plan, specifying
project activities
Nine complete sets of application
must be received at the IHC (HSSB 6046) no later than 5:00pm
on the deadline date.
