This talk deals with the mirroring and dialectical interaction between child and adult in the construction of social institutions, truth, beauty, justice, and, of course, the sacred as much as the nation.

Michael Taussig is Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University. He is the author of Shamanism, Colonialism and the Wild Man: A Study in Terror and Healing, The Devil and Commodity Fetishism in South America, Destruccion y resistencia campesina, La esclavitud y libertad en el Valle del Rio Cauca, The Nervous System, Mimesis and Alterity: A Particular History of the Senses, and Defacement: Public Secrecy and the Labor of the Negative.
