Fellowship / Grant Proposal Workshop For UCSB Faculty

12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. / April 12 / Free
Crowell Reading Room
6028 Humanities and Social Sciences Building

This informal workshop for faculty in the arts, humanities, and humanistic social sciences will cover the basics of fellowship and grant application, from identification of funding sources to proposal preparation, submission, and the review process. The workshop will be led by Ming-yan Lai, IHC senior analyst, who will discuss proposal writing strategies. Carla Whitacre, Director of Research Development, Office of Research, will provide an overview of intramural and extramural funding sources and discuss Internet resources for locating grants and fellowships. Two experienced UCSB faculty, Carol Lansing (History) and Simon Williams (Dramatic Art), will provide reviewers' perspectives on the elements of a successful proposal. Copies of recent successful proposals, along with proposal writing guides, will be made available to all participants.

If you plan to attend, please email or call Dr. Lai (mlai@ihc.ucsb.edu; x7799) to allow time for adequate preparation of workshop materials. Bring your brown bag lunch; light refreshments will be provided.

If you cannot attend but would like more information or help with any aspects of fellowship or grant application, please contact Dr. Lai for an appointment.
