Christopher Craft
Queering the Specular: Ovid, Wilde and Lacan

Christopher Craft is Assistant Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he specializes in nineteenth-century British literature, the history of sexualities, and queer theory. Queering the Specular explores the intertextual relations among Ovid’s Narcissus myth, Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Lacan’s Mirror Phase. The lecture derives from Craft’s current research project, entitled Ocular Capture: Visuality and Fetishism in Victorian Culture.
