Ann Louise Bardach, prize-winning journalist who has written about Cuba for eight years, will discuss "The Cuban-American Tango: What's Next?" at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 17 in the McCune Conference Room, Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, 6020 Humanities and Social Sciences Building, UCSB. This free, public lecture is being sponsored by the University Art Museum and co-sponsored by the "Global Peace, Security, and Human Rights" Lecture Series at UCSB. It is being put on in conjunction with the exhibition, "Contemporary Art from Cuba: Irony and Survival on the Utopian Island" which runs from October 11 - December 10, 2000 at the University Art Museum and College of Creative Studies Gallery.
Ann Louise Bardach, a recipient of the PEN West Award for Journalism and a contributing editor to Talk magazine, is the author of Troubled Waters: The Miami-Havana Showdown, which will be published by Random House next year. An excerpt from her book, "Elian: The Untold Story," appeared in the May 2000 issue of George Magazine.
This event is part of the "Global Peace, Security, and Human Rights" lecture series being sponsored by the UC Institute for Global Conflict and Cooperation, UCSB Arts & Lectures, Global and International Studies Program, Global Peace and Security Program and Interdisciplinary Humanities Center. It is being put on in partnership with the Santa Barbara Committee on Foreign Relations, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, PAX 2100, International Studies Association at Santa Barbara City College, and the International Studies Program at Ventura College.
