UCIRA University of Califronia Santa Barbara Institute for Research in the Arts
GRANT DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2006

Demonstration Projects - Individual or Collaborative
The Demonstration Projects program supports artists and scholars from diverse disciplines to develop ideas and approaches that extend the conventional limits of arts research at the University of California. It seeks to encourage innovative, experimental, and risk-taking projects in both the visual and performing arts.

Action Research Projects
The Action Research program awards are reserved for expanded praxis/participation-oriented proposals in which UC faculty and/or students partner as co-researchers and co-learners with representatives from a broad range of off-campus communities, organizations and agencies. Project proposals should be designed to develop and foster sustained relationships between academic and non-academic sectors and to encourage participants to work on mutually defined problems and projects situated within a real world context.

Innovative Residencies
The Innovative Residency program is designed to maximize the circulation of ideas, information, research projects and personnel throughout the UC system and the state.
We will accept proposals for various residency formats, including (but not limited to):
• Visiting artists (must involve the participation of at least two UC campuses)
• Summer residencies
• Research focus groups - multi-campus interdisciplinary arts research clusters
• International faculty exchanges
• International group residencies - must involve UC faculty and students.
