SOUTH ASIAN RELIGIONS AND CULTURE RESEARCH
FOCUS GROUP
Co-Conveners, Barbara Holdrege and Gurinder Singh Mann
NOTE: NEW DATE & LOCATION
Friday, January 27 / 3:00 pm / 3041 HSSB
Please join us for an important planning meeting for
the South Asian Religions and Cultures Research Focus
Group. Following our successful inaugural conference
on South Asian Studies in the United States in November,
we invite all interested faculty and graduate students
to join us to discuss our program of visiting lecturers
for the winter and spring quarters and to help us plan
the group's activities for the coming years.
The South Asian Religions and Cultures Research Focus
Group serves as a multidisciplinary forum for faculty
and graduate students to meet and discuss the participants'
ongoing research projects as well as a range of social,
cultural, and religious issues in South Asian studies.
The topics that we intend to explore over the coming
years include shifting paradigms in South Asian studies;
ethnography of rituals; diaspora and transnational identities;
religious nationalisms; spatial analysis of sacred places,
cultural landscapes, and cyberspace; visual culture;
cinema and post-colonial media theory; and race, gender,
and identity politics.
Sponsored by the IHC’s South Asian Religion and
Cultures Research Focus Group.
