William Shipley is an Emeritus Professor of linguistics
from the University of California at Santa Cruz, where
he worked from 1966 to 1991. He is known for his pioneering
work with the unique and endangered language of the
Mountain Maidu Indians of California, and has published
the only Dictionary of the Maidu language. Recently,
Shipley authored several books on Maidu Myths with bilingual
translations.
