Just off the coast of central Greece lies the tidal
islet Mitrou, a region associated in antiquity with
the Homeric hero Lokrian Ajax. Since 2003 Mitrou has
been the focus of intensive archaeological investigation.
In his talk, John Lee describes the Aegean Bronze Age
(1600-1100 B.C.) and Iron Age (1000-900 B.C.) findings
of 2005 field season at Mitrou and the complex relationship
between foreign archaeologists and modern Greek village
society in East Lokris.
Sponsored by the IHC’s Interdisciplinary Archaeology
Research Focus Group.
