Dr. Robert McChesney is Research Professor in the Institute
of Communications Research and the Graduate School of
Library and Information Science at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work concentrates
on the history and political economy of communication,
emphasizing the role media play in democratic and capitalist
societies. He has published 10 books, over 125 journal
articles and book chapters, over 150 newspaper/magazine
articles/book reviews, over 420 conference presentations,
and 600 radio and TV appearances. This talk is part
of the Center for Film, Television and New Media’s
