Chicana Butch/Femme: Aged Reflections Based on Participant Observations
Dr. Deena J. González (Loyola Marymount University)
Friday, April 23 / 2 PM / FREE
The Harbor Room, The University Center, UCSB

Professor González’s work examines Chicana and Latina sexuality drawing from a survey conducted in the Bay Area in 1988, and revised and updated in 1992. The methodologies deployed probe the blurred boundaries between participation and observation, insider and outsider positions, and individual and collaborative research. Professor Deena J. González chairs the Department of Chicana/o Studies at Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles. She has published numerous articles on Chicana history and sexuality and is the author of Refusing the Favor: The Spanish-Mexican Women of Santa Fe, 1820-1880 (Oxford U. Press, 1999).

Sponsored by the IHC Queer Theory Research Focus Group.
