Erased Faces,
the latest novel by Chicana writer Graciela Limón, traces the
journey of a Chicana from Los Angeles to Chiapas, Mexico where she
becomes involved in the Zapatista revolt and learns about the history
of the indigenous struggle for survival in the centuries since the
Spanish conquest. The novel interweaves issues of gender, class, and
race in a transborder context. It has recently been awarded the Gustavus
Myers Outstanding Book Award (Boston). Among Limón’s
other novels are In Search of Bernabe (1993), The Memories
of Ana Calderon (1994), Song of the Hummingbird (1996),
and The Day of the Moon (1999). Panelists: Graciela Limón,
