TALK: “A Virile and Meaningful Democratic Left?” Making Sense of Political Ideology in California in the Post-World War II Era
Jonathan Bell (History, University of Reading, UK)
Friday, May 4 / 1:00 PM / HSSB 4041
Jonathan Bell, lecturer in history at the University of Reading, considers the historical possibility that post World War II California might well have been a laboratory for an American version of European social democracy. As a student of the activist California Democratic Council, Bell studies the politicians, both amateur and professional, who linked New Deal impulses to Great Society statecraft.
