PERFORMANCE: The Monument Project

The Monument Project is a collaborative theatre initiative that brings together Isla Vista teens, senior citizens and UCSB undergraduates. In this project sponsored by UCSB’s Visiting Artist Program, Luis Alfaro will lead students and seniors in writing and performance workshops designed to negotiate a vision of a monument that commemorates some aspect of their community. Performer and playwright Luis Alfaro who has worked across the US, the UK, and Mexico, was born and raised in downtown Los Angeles. He is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and is a visiting artist at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

This program is sponsored by the Visiting Artist Program of the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center at UCSB; Chicano/a Studies; and Dramatic Art in collaboration with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
