This event celebrates the opening night of Sarah Ruhl’s
Melancholy Play presented by the Department
of Dramatic Art at UCSB. The discussion focuses on the
creation of Melancholy Play and development
of new plays in general. The collaboration between playwright,
director and dramaturgy is explored, as well as the
roles of the actor and designer through the rehearsal
process. Ruhl’s plays have recently been produced
at Yale Repertory Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theater
and South Coast Repertory Theater. Ms. Ruhl is the winner
of the Susan Smith Blackburn award for her play The
Clean House.
