Taking Derrida’s article The Theater of Cruelty
and the Closure of Representation (Writing and Difference,
1978) as a point of departure, our colleague Eric Prieto
will discuss the contrasting attitudes towards the French
philosopher in France and the United States and the
centrality of the theme of representation in his work.
Copies of Derrida’s article both in French and
in English will be available online. To access the readings
