Percussionist Scott Deal is an active performer of new works. Noted as “a standout inspiration” by the Miami Herald, he has performed as a soloist at the Subtropics New Music Festival, May in Miami, Society of Electro-Acoustic Musicians International Con-ference, and the Northwest Percussion Festival. Composers whose works he has premiered include John Luther Adams, Dorothy Hindman, Carlos Surinach, Emma Lou Diemer, Charles Norman Mason, David Heuser, Robin Cox, Henry Wolking and John Van der Slice.

He holds a DMA Degree from the University of Miami, MM degree from the University of Cincinnati, and a BA degree from Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1995 he moved to Alaska and launched the percussion program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He has served as Principal Percussionist of the Fairbanks Symphony, Timpanist of the Arctic Chamber Orchestra, and is currently on the artist faculty for the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival.
