TALK: Trains of Thought: Modernist Subjectivity and the Colonial Railroad Niels Buch-Jepsen (Cornell) Friday, April 16 / 3:30 PM / FREE South Hall 2635, UCSB Focusing on the writings of Rene Maran, Michel Leiris, Andre Gide and Joseph Conrad, this talk examines the role and significance of the railroad in the development of both literary modernism and colonialism. Niels Buch-Jepsen will receive his Ph.D. from Cornell in 2004. His thesis is titled The Sense of a Beginning: Theory of Literary Openings.
