TALK: Image of Thought: Samuel Beckett Meets the Hulk
Anthony Uhlmann (University of Western Sydney)
Friday, April 30 / 3:30 PM / FREE
South Hall 2635, UCSB
Professor
Uhlmann develops Gilles Deleuze's idea of “the image of thought”
in relation to literature, drama and film. In developing a reading
of Ang Lee's film The Hulk, and touching on Samuel Beckett's
novel The Unnamable, and his late play, “Ohio Impromptu,”
this paper will discuss how the image of thought has developed in
the narrative arts. Professor Uhlmann is the author of Beckett
and Poststructuralism (1999) and a forthcoming book Samuel
Beckett and Images of Philosophy.
