This lecture will examine the errors and obstacles that have frustrated President Vicente Fox's bold vision of a quickly reinvented and developed Mexico in union with the U.S. in a borderless North
American community.

David R. Ayon is a political analyst and writer, and Senior Research Associate at The Center of the Study of Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University. He has served as an elections analyst, consultant and special producer for Spanish-language TV news coverage of every
electoral cycle since 1992, and has contributed essays on Latino politics and on Mexico to the opinion pages of the Los Angeles Times since 1990.

Kathleen Bruhn is Associate Professor of Political Science at UCSB and the co-author of Mexico: The Struggle for Democratic Development.
