Come join us for the second meeting of the Sound in
the Arts (SitA) Research Focus Group. Co-convener Cory
Mathews will give an audio-visual presentation about
the core aesthetics of sound installation artist Max
Neuhaus. We'll also discuss SitA's goals and future
events. Your contribution to this brainstorming session
would be valued. Cory Mathews is a PhD Candidate in
Musicology at UCSB. He is currently working on a dissertation
about the first 20 years of Max Neuhaus' career (1963-1983)
as percussionist, composer, and sound installation artist:
a historical examination with a focus on context and
transition. ‘"Naming and Renaming" is
a version of a paper presented to the ‘"Situated
Sonic Practices" session of the Architecture/Music/Acoustics
cross-disciplinary conference held at Ryerson University
(Toronto, Canada) in June 2006. Bring your lunch!
