Yvette Christiansë
Thursday, November 30 / 4:00 PM
MultiCultural Center Theater
Join us as Yvette Christiansë, South African poet
and author of the widely known epic poem Castaway, reads
from her first full length novel. Based on actual 19th
century court records, Unconfessed tells the fictionalized
account of Sila van den Kaap, an African slave woman
who is spared death but sent to spend the rest of her
life on Robin Island for the murder of her own child.
Through the rich flow of Sila’s voice the reader
is introduced to the precise details of a slave woman’s
life in the South African outback of the early 1800s.
