The third event in a year-long series on Media
Ownership: Research and Regulation. William Warner will
situate contemporary copyright and ownership issues
in a historical context. Professor Warner conducts research
on the Enlightenment, the novel, the history of media
culture from the 18th century to the present and free
speech and censorship. His many books include Licensing
Entertainment: The Elevation of Novel Reading, 1684-1750
(1998) and Cultural Institutions of the Novel
(edited, 1996). His current research project is focused
on Early American networks. Dr. Pritchard became the
University Librarian at UCSB in 1999, and in 2001 was
selected by the Association of College and Research
Libraries to receive the Career Achievement Award in
Women's Studies. She is the author of the RLG Conspectus
in Women's Studies and The Women's Annual 1983-1984,
and was editor of the ARL Statistics and Salary
Survey.
