Tom Frank is one of America's most acute and lively
public intellectuals. He is the author of the New
York Times Bestseller, What's the Matter With
Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America.
The Boston Globe calls this book "The must-read
of this election season." Conservative columnist
George Will describes Frank as "A formidable controversialist
- imagine Michael Moore with a trained brain and an
intellectual conscience."
As a first year graduate student at the University
of Chicago, Frank founded The Baffler, a polemically
sharp and engagingly witty journal of both cultural
criticism and political economy. He edits it still.
He is the author of The Conquest of Cool (1997),
One Market Under God (2000) and two Baffler
anthologies. A contributor to The Nation, In
These Times, and the OP-Ed pages of The New York
Times and The Los Angeles Times, Frank
currently writes for Harpers Magazine
ADDITIONAL EVENT: Tom Frank
will lead a workshop on writing for the
mainstream press, Friday, October 8, 10 a.m., in Room
4041, Humanities and
Social Science Building. All are welcome.
