Michael Denning, who holds the William R. Kenan, Jr.
chair in American Studies at Yale, deconstructs the
language of class, ethnicity, and region in a talk derived
from his 2003 book, Culture in the Age of Three
Worlds. Denning built his reputation for historically
informed cultural commentary with Mechanic Accents:
Dime Novels and Working Class Culture in America
(1987), and The Cultural Front: the Laboring of
American Culture in the Twentieth Century (1997).
