This event launches the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music’s symposia on Marxism, Post-Structuralism and Music. The first meeting of the Marxism/Post-Structuralism/Music Reading Group for 2004-05 will discuss the Introduction, "The Two Histories of Capital," and the chapter entitled "Translating Life Worlds" from Dipesh Chakrabarty's Provincializing Europe (Princeton University Press, 2000) and will be led by Professor Bhaskar Sarkar from the Department of Film Studies. Refreshments will be served.
