Professor Pickstone, founding Director of the Centre for the History of Science, Technology & Medicine at the University of Manchester, and currently Professor of the History of Science at the Centre and at the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, will give an informal workshop as part of the Science Studies Colloquium. Building on arguments presented in his book Ways of Knowing: A New History of Science, Technology and Medicine (Chicago UP, 2001) and drawing on case studies from the early 19th century, Prof. Pickstone will address the question of how and where science, technology and medicine might fit in a historical map of knowledge.
