Jill Harries
Crime, Social Deviance and the Limits of Roman Law

Prof. Jill Harries is an internationally recognized expert on the subject of ancient Roman law. Her books include The Theodosian Code: Studies in the Imperial Law of Late Antiquity (London, 1993), Sidonius Apollinaris and the Fall of Rome, AD 407-485 (Oxford, 1994) and the magisterial Law and Empire in Late Antiquity (Cambridge, 1999). She currently is Head of the School of Clssics at St Andrews University, Scotland and a Visiting Professor of Classics at Emory University in Atlanta.

The talk is co-sponsored by the Departments of History and Classics at UCSB, The UC Multi-Campus
Research Group in Late Antiquity, and the IHC.
