SYMPOSIUM: Genocide And Crimes Against Humanity: The Challenge Of
Prevention And Enforcement

Co-convened by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and the Simons Centre
for Peace and Disarmament Studies, University of British Columbia,
the second annual symposium on international law initiates a two-day
conference devoted to considering current efforts and proposals to
prevent genocide and crimes against humanity. The meeting seeks to
find agreement on a process for establishing an international coalition
for the creation of United Nations Forces for Prevention and Enforcement.
The Honorable Lloyd Axworthy, a former Foreign Minister of Canada
and a leader in the effort to achieve a global treaty banning landmines
will give the keynote address. Other speakers include Richard Falk,
Professor Emeritus of International Law and Practice at Princeton
Univeristy and Chair of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation; Professor
Saul Mendlovitz of Rutgers University, a co-funder of Global Action
to Prevent War; Dr. Peter Langille of the Center for Global Studies
at the Un8iversity of Victoria; and William Pace, executive director
of the World Federalist Association.
