"On the Road Again: Reconsidering the Political Writings of F.A. Hayek"

F.A. Hayek is a hero of the modern-day libertarian movement. An established academic, public intellectual, and Nobel Laureate, Hayek lent a crucial aura respectability to the cause of free-marketeers. In "On the Road Again," I offer a critical re-evaluation of Hayek's political theory. My analysis suggests that Hayek's philosophical interventions have been read against an expectation that he is seeking to advance a political agenda, and that this lens has blinded critics to the insights Hayek offers about the meaning of liberalism and the nature of a liberal society. As it turns out, Hayek is not the libertarian dogmatist he has been presumed to be by admirers and detractors alike.
