Call for Papers: Narrative-Making in the Aftermath of War

April 25-26, 2013
CFP Deadline: February 1, 2013

“Narrative-Making in the Aftermath of War” will be a two-day conference sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center (IHC) of the University of California, Santa Barbara, on April 25-26, 2013.  The conference is part of the IHC’s 2012-2013 program “Fallout,” a year-long series of events dedicated to examining the impact of the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan upon the soldiers who have fought in these wars: visit https://www.ihc.ucsb.edu/fallout for more details.  The conference will focus specifically on the capacity of narrative-making to help returning service members deal with the after-effects of war and reintegrate into their communities.  We seek papers from diverse perspectives that address the complex process of narrative-making and its effect upon veterans, their communities, and the culture more broadly.  Veteran-writers, scholars, mental health professionals, writing workshop facilitators and others engaged with this issue are encouraged to apply.  Please submit a 250-word abstract and a brief CV to narrativemaking@gmail.com by Friday, February 1, 2013.
