For over two hundred years India’s philosophies and practices have been transforming the ways in which Americans understand and engage in religious and spiritual practices. This multimedia presentation illuminated this remarkable history and revealed the many streams through which the India-to-America transmission has impacted life in the United States. Goldberg provided an historical overview of the leading Indian teachers and yoga masters who have had a transformative influence on American thought and culture. He also discussed the seminal Western thinkers, artists, and scientists who have been influenced by Indian philosophies and practices, often in subtle and surprising ways, and have become transmitters themselves.

Philip Goldberg is the author or co-author of over twenty books, including Roadsigns on the Spiritual Path: Living at the Heart of Paradox) and his latest publication, American Veda: From Emerson and the Beatles to Yoga and Meditation—How Indian Spirituality Changed the West.
