Indian Catholics: Issues from the Perspective of Development

Rowena Robinson (Sociology, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi)
J. E. and Lillian Byrne Tipton Distinguished Visiting Professor in Catholic Studies
Tuesday, May 18 / 4:00 pm
Alumni Hall, Mosher Alumni House

The lecture briefly traced the past of Indian Catholics in order to enable us to look more closely at their present. The context is an unequal, rapidly changing, and religiously complex society. The lecture raised questions about the future of Indian Catholics as part of a Christian minority given the rise of Hindu nationalism as well as various axes of internal differentiation.
